Abstract

The Seconds project has developed put of an interest in critical design and a desire to investigate the value of the objects that I make within my practice as a glass artist.

The project involves the installation of blown glass pieces as
formal exhibitions in abandoned spaces within industrial areas around Adelaide. These blown glass pieces are seconds, or glass objects with small defects that make them unsalable. The intention of the project is to reach a wider audience that may not necessarily have access to art and design galleries, or may not be consumers of craft and design products. The project has an ‘opening’ in a different space every two months, with each installation documented in the space at the opening and then after three weeks to observe the interaction of the glass with the space,

time and people who hopefully will find the installations. My aim within this project is to take conceptual design out of the gallery and into everyday life.
